In order to present the Biblical case for the Rapture of the church and for folk to actually read it, I will make it short and hopefully readable.
I understand the word “Rapture” is not found in the Bible but the teaching and doctrine certainly is. The word “Trinity” is not found in the Bible but the teaching certainly is found in both the Old and New testaments.
The “Rapture” concerns the teaching that before the Tribulation period begins the Church will be removed to meet Jesus the Christ in the clouds.
There are several words or terms found in the Bible to indicate the Great Tribulation period: The wrath of God, Jacobs trouble, Great Tribulation, Daniels 70 weeks, etc.
The Tribulation period lasts for Approximately 7 years. But before this takes place the “Present” church will be removed. Why? God says that when you become a Christian, the Holy Spirit lives inside us. The Bible teaches that when the Tribulation takes place the Holy Spirit will be completely removed from the earth:
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 11 Thesalonians 2:7 Notice it says He will be taken away. [The Holy Spirit”] If the Holy Sprit was not taken away the anti-Christ, also called that man of sin, would not have free reign.
But the previous verses make it plain that He is talking about the Tribulation period:
1 ¶ Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 ¶ Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
Now let’s look at more specifically where it says in the Bible the church will be taken away.
In the Old Testament we find what is called “Types” to better explain certain teachings or doctrines. Noah and Lot are “Types” that teach the removal of the church before destruction comes via the Tribulation period.
Before the earth was destroyed God had Noah construct an ark so that Noah and his family could escape the destruction of the earth. Before God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah God told Lot to flee.
Concerning the wrath of God, Paul writes concerning that Tribulation period:
1 ¶ But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. 1 Thessalonians chapter 5
Notice the words “God has NOT appointed us to wrath,” in verse number 9.
When we read the book of Revelation we find the bulk of material tells about the Tribulation period. Starting in verse number 1 of chapter 4 the church is no longer mentioned. Why? Because the church is not there during the Tribulation period:
1 ¶ After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. Revelation chapter 4
John was raptured. The church will be raptured.
When God judges the world after the Tribulation period God comes with His saints. They are already with Him and not here on earth:
13 To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. 1 Thessaloinians 3:13
When Christ comes back to Judge the world He comes with all His saints.
Much, much more can be found in the Bible that teaches this precious truth. I hope this brief presentation helps. More later as I recall…….
