Promises Kept——Promises Broken

Candidate Donald Trump made big promises on the campaign trail for what he’d do to “make America great again” in his first 100 days.
In a series of campaign rallies, speeches, and a contract with voters last year, Trump made sweeping pledges to “drain the swamp” and “bring change to Washington.”
So how did he do?
Here’s where he stands on holding to those promises:
Promises kept
· Trump imposed a hiring freeze on the federal workforce, with the exception of military, public safety and public health officials. While he promised to do this on day one, he implemented it Jan. 23. The freeze expired on April 12.
· Trump signed a “Two-for-One” regulation executive order, as promised, that would require agencies to eliminate two regulations for every new regulation passed. This was another item Trump promised for day one, though it slipped a bit.
· Trump signed an executive order to impose a five-year ban on White House and congressional officials becoming lobbyists when they finish work in government.
· Trump signed an executive order to institute a lifetime ban on White House officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign government.
· Trump signed a presidential memorandum notifying a withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
· Trump ordered a study to identify and investigate all foreign trading abuses.
· Trump granted approval for the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, following through on a vow to move forward on energy infrastructure projects.
· Trump nominated, and won confirmation, for a successor to the late Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court, Neil Gorsuch.
· Trump signed a bill to extend the Veterans Choice Program to deliver on a promise to give veterans the ability to receive public VA treatment, or see a private doctor of their choice.
· Trump signed multiple executive orders to create new task forces to fight crime and drug cartels.
· Trump directed Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to order embassies to increase scrutiny and security checks before issuing visas to ensure new screening procedures for immigration to the U.S.
· Trump signed ethics policies to “drain the swamp” by making it harder for people to profit from their time in government.
· Trump ordered departments and agencies to identify wasteful spending on programs and asked for recommendations for potential improvements.
*Many of the above items were promised for day one of Trump’s presidency, but not completed until later
Promises broken/No action taken
· Despite Trump’s promise to cancel visas, on his first day in office, to and from foreign countries that do not allow criminal and illegal aliens back into their countries, he did not follow through. China, Jordan and India do not take back criminal aliens.
· Trump promised to propose a constitutional amendment, on his first day in office, to impose term limits for all members of Congress. No such proposal exists.
· Trump promised to get rid of gun-free zones that exist at schools and military bases on his first day, but gun-free zones still exist.
· Trump promised to direct the secretary of the Treasury to designate China as a currency manipulator, but Trump changed his mind and said China is not a currency manipulator.
· Despite his promise to cancel billions of dollars, on his first day in office, in payments to U.N. climate change programs, he did not. Trump’s budget proposal does cut funding for climate change programs, but it doesn’t stop funds that have already been approved.
· Trump promised to save and protect Social Security and Medicare, but there haven’t been any changes to these programs.
· Ending Common Core was among “first 100 day” promises, but it still exists.
· Trump promised to increase funding for local police programs, but no additional funds have been directed to those programs. In fact, under Trump’s budget proposal, local counterterrorism programs would see cuts.
· Despite his promise to have the “great, big, beautiful wall” fully funded, and paid for by Mexico, the plan to fund the U.S.-Mexico border wall is unclear, and Mexico has denied any suggestions that it would pay for the construction.
· Trump planned to enhance penalties for those who overstay their visas, but current penalties have not changed
· Trump promised to appoint a team to create a cybersecurity plan within 90 days, but there has yet to be a team appointed, and no such plan exists. Trump also promised to have a full report on hacking within 90 days, but no such report exists.
· Trump promised to ban foreign lobbyists raising money for American elections, but no action has been taken—it is already illegal for foreign nationals to contribute money to American elections.
· Trump continues to promise to speed the approval of life-saving medications, but the administration has yet to address this.
Working on it
· Trump vowed to secure U.S. borders to eliminate illegal immigration, and while unlawful crossings still exist, the volume of these border crossings has dropped significantly in the first 100 days.
· The administration has yet to sign a bill to repeal and replace ObamaCare as vowed, but they’re working on it. The first Republican health care plan failed to get the support necessary to even take it to the House floor for a vote. Republicans are now considering new legislation, but it has not yet been slated for a vote.
· Trump promised to begin the “very, very, very fast” removal of more than 2 million criminal illegal illegal aliens. In March, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said they arrested 21,362 since January.
· Trump issued executive orders and signed Congressional Review Acts to roll back Obama-era policies, but did not cancel “every unconstitutional” executive action issued by Obama, as promised.
· Trump vowed to cut funding for “sanctuary cities,” which has not yet happened. Attorney General Jeff Sessions warned the cities that funding would be cancelled if they resisted federal immigration law and enforcement—but a U.S. judge blocked the executive order.
· Trump promised to begin building the U.S.-Mexico border wall in his first 100 days. Construction has not started, but Customs and Border Protection have requested and received bids from companies interested in building the wall
· Trump attempted to suspend the Syrian refugee resettlement program and suspend immigration from terror-prone regions by signing two “travel ban” executive orders. The first order specifically banned Syrian refugees, and targeted seven predominantly Muslim countries for a 90-day suspension of entry to the U.S. Federal courts blocked the order. A revised version is still tied up in the courts.
· Trump signed an executive order to roll back Obama-era coal leases in an effort to produce “clean coal,” and has signed an order that could lead to lifting restrictions on offshore drilling.
· Trump’s budget proposal directed a massive increase in defense spending, as promised, but did not eliminate the defense sequester.
· Legislation to establish a mandatory minimum federal prison sentence for those who illegally re-enter the U.S. after a previous deportation has been introduced to Congress, but has not passed.
· Trump is talking about a $1 trillion infrastructure package, but nothing has been implemented yet.
· Just before the 100-day mark, Trump announced a plan to renegotiate NAFTA.
· Trump also announced the blueprint for a tax plan just before his 100-day mark, which the administration says would provide “massive tax cuts” for the middle class. Congress must still draft and debate an actual bill.

Faith the Size of a Mustard Seed and Signs and Wonders

How much faith is required to do certain things?

20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.  Matthew chapter 17

Just a month or so ago they was a story in the news about a Pastor of a church walking on water. He invited his entire congregation to witness how wonderful his faith was. His followers were excited and they all came to watch. Sadly, the Pastor drowned as he knew not how to swim. Some say if he would have had more faith he would have walked across the water to safety. Jesus in the above passage says if we have faith the size of a mustard seed we can move mountains.

It does not take a lot of faith to walk on water but it does take Gods will. That is why folk with sickness is not always healed. It is NOT always Gods will. One thing for sure, as Christians, it is not for us to determine or say what Gods plans are for us. The only way to determine Gods will is NOT by how we feel about something but instead, “What Does the Book Say?” The Bible does not say we all can walk on water or that we all will never die and be healed of every sickness,

When is the last time you moved a mountain? When is the last time you saw a so-called miracle worker have as their home base a hospital? Instead these health and wealth Preachers are in business to make money. Jesus lived a poor material life. The Bible tells us He did not even have a place to lay His head. Yet we see these TV Preachers living the grand life of owning multiple million dollar homes, their own Jet Air plane and exotic vacations with maids and servants.

What did Jesus say about signs and wonders?

38 ¶ Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40  For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.  Matthew chapter 12

What was Jesus talking about when He brought up the name Jonas? Jesus was getting ready to go to the cross, die and after 3 days rise from the dead. That my friend is the Gospel. That should be our focus, not God giving us material wealth or even healing every sickness we may have. Jesus is the focus, not us. Jesus aid we are never to seek after signs. We are to seek Him. John the Baptist said, “I must decrease, He must increase.”

Nothing wrong with material wealth but it sure should not be our main goal.

There is a TV broadcast called TCT. Every once in a while I tune in. Mostly what you hear is, Become our partners, Plant your seed, commit a few hundred dollars in form of a pledge. Give us your credit card and we will make monthly deductions. Can you imagine Jesus announcing such? Never, Never, Never He did do such a thing. It is NOT the Gospel. The Gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus the Christ:

1 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 1 Corinthians chapter 15

The Gospel has nothing to do with everyone receiving material wealth or being healed of our physical sickness. It is the healing of our souls from sin that matters. Some of the Pentecostals use Isaiah chapter 53 as their proof:

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

This verse has the word heal in it and they are quick to say it is physical healing. Let’s look at the complete chapter in context:

1 ¶ Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 ¶ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 ¶ Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

This chapter is about Jesus and the price He paid on the cross. It is about US being transgressors by way of sin and Jesus healing our sick soul. Not our body. Read the chapter carefully. No mention of our physical ailments, no mention of us receiving material wealth.

Paul asked the Lord three times to remove the thorn in his side. How did God answer?

7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. 11 Corinthians chapter 12

At times we need chastisement. At times we need stern correction by the way of sickness. Sometimes it is Gods will that we have pain. It should bring us closer to Him by having us depend on Him. More later as I recall…….

Love My Country but I’m Sad

Old age is neither good or bad. Getting old is a time to reflect. Remembering where we came from. Looking at where we are and wondering where we are going. I still love the songs, “God Bless America,” Our National anthem and so many more patriotic songs.

We all could have been born in Iran, China, Russia or North Korea. We live in a country where tens of thousand have given their life and we all owe deep gratitude to these people and to the one who created us all.

Should I have been brought up and schooled in Islam would I now hate America? No way to actually tell. Would I be a militant fighting for ISIS? Or perhaps working the rice paddies in China for pennies a day.

One reason I love history is learning about those who came before me and how we got to where we are today. At 74 years of age I have seen much and have lived through much history. Because of that I am very opinionated. There are things I believe in strongly.

Seeing the things happening now to our country brings tears to my eyes. It is NOT how we became great. It is not how we became the most benevolent country this world has ever seen. It was never just “us first.” We, as a nation, spread our wealth, we spread the Gospel like no other country ever did. We came to a quick aid to our allies not just near home but around the world we fought for what is right.

We were a grand example to the entire world. We were looked up to and only despots rallied their people against us. We took in refugees and all those who were being persecuted and oppressed. We were proud to do so and God blessed us for our kindness by giving us prosperity. If a leader was caught lying, that person was out. Believe it or not even the media supported us.

We were never miss goody two shoes but we did demand truth and moral leadership. It is true, our leaders were not always good moral leaders but those who were not, kept it well hidden. We simply believed we should hire the cream of the crop to lead our nation not just in the executive branch but in every portion of our government. If a person came out as openly gay they were discharged.

You see, I am old enough to know where we came from. Now, I pray often, God have Mercy on us. More later as I recall…….

The Story of Amazing Grace

During his 1748 voyage to England after his rescue, Newton had a spiritual conversion.

John Newton known as the author of the hymn “Amazing Grace” was converted to Christ after reading the Bible. Can a person be sure of Heaven before they die. As Newton read the Bible he became convinced that by coming to Christ he could be sure of Heaven. He put his belief into the song, “Amazing Grace.” This belief straight from the Bible.

Please examine the words to this well know hymn carefully. Ponder it in your heart. Come to the same Jesus Newton came to. Agree with God because you are a sinner, you need rescued. More later as I recall…….

Jimmy Swaggart

In looking at Jimmy Swaggarts official site I find this under what he believes:

• The Redemptive Work of Christ on the Cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer.

No mention of the work of Christ on the cross providing Salvation and forgiveness for our sins. The fact is, this is heresy of the highest order. Gods will is not ALWAYS that our bodies are healed. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

The Apostle Paul had a thorn in his side and asked 3 times for the Lord to remove the physical infirmity.

Swaggart is a very charismatic preacher. Often does he add to scripture which is forbidden. Swaggart is what is called a health and wealth preacher. Have enough faith and God will heal your cancer, deseased heart and lungs etc. Plant your seed by sending him money and God will bless you with material wealth. All this is heresy, every last bit of it goes against what the Bible clearly teaches.

When we go to Swaggarts official site here is all we find:

What we believe at the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries

• The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God.
( Ps. 119; Mat. 4:4; Lk. 24:27 )

• There is one God, eternally co-existent in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. ( I Jn.5:7 )

• In the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His Virgin Birth, in His Sinless Life, in His Miracles, in His Vicarious and atoning Death, in His Bodily Resurrection, in His Ascension to the Right Hand of the Father, in His personal future return to this Earth in Power and Glory to rule a thousand years.
( Jn.1:1-4;Eph.2:13-18;Rev.Chpts.19-20 )

• In the Blessed Hope – the Rapture of the Church at Christ’s Coming. ( I Thess.4:13-18 )

• The only means of being cleansed from sin is through Repentance and Faith in the Precious Blood of Christ. ( Rom.5:1;Eph.2:8-9,13-18 )

• Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal Salvation. (Jn.3:5-8;Titus 3:5)

• The Redemptive Work of Christ on the Cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer. ( Ex.15:25-26;James 5:14-15;I Pet.2:24 )

• The Baptism with the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:4, is given to Believers who ask for it.
( Acts 2:4;10:44-46;19:1-7 )

• In the Sanctifying Power of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life. ( Rom.6:3-14;8:1-2,11 )

• In the Resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to Everlasting Life and the other to everlasting damnation. ( Rev.20:5-6,11-15 )

No mention of repentance. No mention of how a person comes to Christ. Of course some of what he lists is correct but you can’t mix correct and false together and think you are on the right track. If all you do is go by how you feel about Swaggart instead of what the Bible says, you are dead wrong and obviously have poor discernment. More later as I recall…….

But What Does the Book Say?

But what does the book say, should be on the tongue of every Christian. Confusion seems to spread like wild fire among the Christian community. The office of Benny Hinn was recently raided. One man writes, “I see the devil is at it again.” Another one writes, “Hinn is a false prophet.”  Both of these folk have different beliefs and they both can not be correct. There is no middle ground here. Benny Hinn is either a false prophet or he is not.

How do we know concerning Hinn? or Can we know? The only real test is by checking with what God says in His book the Bible. Why? Because we should NEVER go by our feelings. Feelings change. Gods book does not change. What our feelings tell us has nothing to do with anything when it comes to “Thus Saith the Lord.”

When this life is over and we our judged by our maker, the question will loom, What did we do with Jesus? What did we do with the book He wrote? Did we believe Him and believe what He said? Did we take the time to discover what the book says? Or did we really not care about what God said? The proof of pride is caring what we believe instead of believing what God has clearly said.

It must always be, “What does the book say?” What does God say? Anything less is shaky and dangerous ground.

The book has the answer. Yes, we must take time to find out but God has not left us to drift and develop and contrive our own beliefs. Two different beliefs can be and is confusing but the Bible says:

“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”

1 Corinthians 14:33

Jesus said:

“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” John 5:39

God had the Apostle Paul write:

“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”  Acts 17:11

Daily these folk searched the Scriptures. Not just when they felt like it but each day these folk spent time and effort finding out what the Scriptures had to say. Notice God uses the word “NOBLE.” Noble in the English dictionary means, “having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals:”

Can you back up what you believe by showing in the Bible what and why you believe? If not we should search the Scriptures to find out what God says. Gods thoughts are many times much different from our thoughts:

6 ¶ Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.  Isaiah chapter 55

God says in this Scripture, “My thoughts are not your thoughts.”

Notice also in the above passage that God points out that seeking the Lord is by searching the Scriptures. “My word is what counts, so says God.”   “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” [Verse 11]

The Bible is such a wonderful book. The Bible is way above all books ever written. Find out what God says. Search the Scriptures. Ask for Gods help. Be diligent and do so with a purpose not only in order to get the correct beliefs but to please God. More later as I recall…….

Are You Sure Jesus Is The Only Way?

Is proclaiming Jesus the only way to Heaven you must admit it is a very narrow teaching.  After all, you’re probably thinking that just me claiming that Jesus is the only way to get to Heaven is rather intolerant, right? After all, what about all those different beliefs other religions have? Isn’t universally everybody going to make it to Heaven, or at least all the “good” people? God is all love, right?

The widespread acceptance of a book written by a self-proclaimed Universal Reconciliationist author, one who openly teaches that a free-will response to the Gospel is an unneeded act because all men will eventually be saved, is just the tip of the iceberg. Christians have been steadily jettisoning the biblical teaching that Jesus is the only way to Heaven and have been replacing it with Young’s unbiblical view of salvation. This compromise stands as a crisis of epic proportions, for the rejection of Jesus Christ as our one and only Savior is the rejection of the need for forgiveness of our sins. Without reconciliation with our Heavenly Father, we remain under God’s wrath and just judgment in Hell (John 3:36).

If you stand up before a TV camera and announce that Jesus is the only way to Heaven you will get hate letters and the entire media will be against you. You might even get a call from Oprah  Winfrey and be degraded. You would be a laughing stock among many of your friends.

And why should you listen to me? If it was just me making that claim, then you’d be right. I’m just a man. What do I know? But, I didn’t originate this claim. Jesus did. Now unless you claim Jesus was a liar you had better listen to what Jesus says and what the Bible claims.

Jesus said:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life” (John 5:24).

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it… [And] not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven” (Matthew 7:13-14,21).

What the apostles said:

10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. [Acts Chapter 4]

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. [1 John chapter 5]

C S Lewis wrote: “A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice.”

In order to make it to Heaven:

1. your sins need forgiven.

2. Jesus the Christ dies and shed His blood on Calvary for that very purpose.

3. If you admit to God your are a sinner who have willfully sinned against Him.

4. And turn to Jesus the Christ for your forgiveness you will escape Hell.

The song “Jesus Paid It All, says it all:

I hear the Savior say, Thy strength indeed is small
Child of weakness, watch and pray, Find in Me thine all in all

‘Cause Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow

Lord, now indeed I find Thy power and Thine alone
Can change the leper’s spots and melt the heart of stone

’cause Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe
my Sin had left this crimson stain, He washed it white as snow

It’s washed away! all my sin
and all my shame

And when before the throne I stand in Him complete
“Jesus died my soul to save” my lips shall still repeat

Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe
(Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow)
(He washed it white as snow)

(O Praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead)5x
well praise the one who paid my debt and raised this life up from the dead
Jesus
You are the one
The son of God!
conqueror of death!
King of kings!
The sacrificial Lamb!

(O Praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead)
well praise the one who paid my debt and raised this life up from the dead,
Jesus.

Do it now my friend. Turn to Him. The one who loves you so much He left Heaven for the sole purpose of making it possible to remove your sins. More later as I recall…….

Prayer……Some Things Learned

I will not start this out or say anywhere in this post that I am a great prayer warrior. The best description of my self is being way down on the totem pole. Without a doubt the most difficult part of my spiritual life to maintain a good prayer practice on a consistent basis. So let’s just forget about me and I will attempt to write about some things I have learned.

Someone has said that every spiritual failure is a prayer failure. Few things in life could I agree with more. Often I have thought of the Apostle Paul when he wrote Timothy and said, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, hence there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.” Sadly I will not be able to say that when this life is all over. But there is one thing I can do, I can finish this life with a close walk with the Lord thus part of what Paul indicated to Timothy is true. Every failure in life is a prayer failure. No doubt about it.

Next, we should pray about everything. We Christians are proud to proclaim that we depend upon God for everything. That being the case we should pray about everything. Small things, big things and in between. Nothing is too insignificant to pray about. Listen to what Paul wrote:

17 Pray without ceasing.
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians chapter 5

In a nut shell, talk to Him all day long. Keep Him on your mind. In Revelation 4:11 it tells us why we were created and why we are here:  “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

We please God when we do not ignore Him. We give God the Glory when our actions show we are depending on Him.

Need a good parking place at the mall? Ask Him for one. No, you will not get a good one each and every time but it will happen more and more. Be satisfied and thankful of what God does give you.

Folk that have good marriages often tell their spouse they love them. Seems to me we should whisper such to God and our Saviour often throughout the day and night. When we awake, He loves to Hear from us, “Good morning Jesus, thank you for a good sleep. Please help me make this day pleasing to you.” Don’t copy and read someone else’s prayer.  Pray from your heart as to what you mean and want to say to Him.

Now we know that no one can be any closer to God than what they make the Scriptures apart of their lives. We know how important it is to read, study and meditate on Gods word each day. But the same goes for prayer. No one can have a close walk with the Saviour unless they have a strong prayer life.

The Bible tells us Enoch walked with God. But in the same text it tells us that Enoch talked with God constantly. Enoch simply could not get God off his mind. It pleased God so much that one day while Enoch and God were walking together and talking that God did not want to part with Enoch so instead of Enoch dying, he just went with God back to Heaven to never return. Enoch walked with God and has now never stopped.

Try and not pray in a mechanical fashion. It is good to have a written prayer list. Otherwise we have a tendency to forget some things we should pray about. But it is dangerous to let our prayer life become mechanical as in just mouthing words. The Bible tells us: “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James chapter 5 verse 16b.

Fervency points to not simply mouthing the words. Fervency can only come from the heart. There is a sweet lady that in 99% of what she posts there are pictures of wild life, flowers, trees and landscapes. She loves to observe, look upon and enjoy Gods creations. Because she is a good Christian woman it is easy to see that she really means it when she admires and thanks God for His creations. You don’t enjoy such, then you probably seldom thank Him for what He has done.

Prayer is all through the Bible. Countless books have been written. I have only listed a few scant things I have learned and the main thing I would like to accomplish in this short article is for those who read this to be encouraged to pray via talking to God. Hence by way of Prayer, I am asking God for some folk to read this and hopefully be encouraged to increase their prayer life and walk with God. More later as I recall…….
