We must not have opinions on this subject by rather to what God says in His book.
1 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Corinthians chapter 15
Let’s break it down from what this scripture says.
- Christ died for our sins.
- He was buried and rose again the 3rd day.
It is no more complicated than these 2 points.
We now must ask, How do we receive and apply this Gospel to ourselves for the purpose of our sin removal?
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
We now see that God says in His book that what happened on Calvary is the Gospel. Christ died for our sins. We also see that we must look to Him to receive the Gospel in payment for our sins. The Bible makes it clear that our trust in what Jesus did on the cross is our only way to have our sins forgiven.
We are cautioned throughout the Bible not to add anything to the Gospel. Do not add church membership, our good works, good intentions, effort etc. Look to Him and to Him only. More later as I recall…….
