I Found the Rock

Watching television not so often there are times when the searching for gold stuff is on and it fascinates me. Get to wondering if there might be buried gold nearby and perhaps I could find it. Retiring as a stone and brick mason I am always fascinated by pretty stone and love to build things that stone tends to make so pretty.

When I was growing up I was told that Peter was the Rock of my faith. However, after reading my Bible I found a much different fact.

To some, the name Peter means rock or stone but even at that, the Bible never says one time that Peter IS THE ROCK. As a matter of fact the Bible clearly tells us who the ROCK actually is and it is not Peter.

“And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” 1st Corinthians 10:4

It says the same thing in the Catholic Bible. There is only ONE Rock. Not two or multiples. It is Jesus, God, who gave his life on the cross that when we come to Him our sins are forgiven. Peter DID NOT pay for our sins and Peter certainly is not God.

The word “ROCK” is mentioned in the Bible 119 times. I challenge you to get a concordance and look up each reference. If you actually believe the Bible you can come up with only one conclusion and that is, JESUS IS THE ROCK.

Not only that, I found Him. I have admitted to God that I deserve Hell and put my Trust in the real ROCK, Jesus and in Him only. How about you? More later as I recall…….

  1. This is interesting because our Bible study today talked about the Greek translation. The masculine interpretation of petros is small rock and the feminine means the ledge upon which the rock is placed. Jesus, of course, is the rock of our salvation and the cornerstone upon which the church is built. Peter was an ordinary man used by God for extraordinary purposes. Thanks for your post. I wrote on Peter today as well.
