A brand new blog and the very first post. How important is the Bible? Does everyone need Gods word? Should everyone read and study the Bible?
Though the Bible is the most publicized book ever, it is a fact that most have never read or studied Gods word. I was 28 years old before I ever owned or read the Bible and never will I forget how much different it was from what I had previously thought. As a matter of fact after a short while, I began to learn there were so many things taught in the Bible that was different and yes at odds from any previous learning on the subject of God or religion.
From science to historical teachings to how to get to Heaven according to God it was nothing short of amazing. One thing I learned quickly, the Bible was not a book on religion and the word religion was only found a total of 7 times out of over 750,000 words. Not only that but in those 5 times the word or subject of religion was not always spoken of in a good way.
Rather than reading with a skeptical mind, I began my reading and study with the strong belief of what I was reading to be true. To this very day, I have never doubted the contents to be false. That is not to say that I understand every thing, but the more I read and study the more I understand.
One nice thing about the age you and I live in, is the availability of a computer. As an example there are many naysayers who teach that the Bible has contradictions. With the modern computer when a contradiction to our eyes appears we can use a search engine on the computer to quickly have a passage explained and our doubts erased. Of course when one has the mind-set of a doubter no reasonable explanation will suffice. To those folk they would rather doubt God.
The Bible tells us we should seek after God as though we are searching for hidden treasure such as gold and silver. The Bible teaches that God had the Bible written. Yes, it was written by men but at the direction of God.
The King James Bible for English-Speaking people is Gods pure word without error of any kind. Yes, there are some archaic words found but my answer is, so what? It is easy to find the definition of any word by simply going to a dictionary. Webster’s dictionary published in 1828 is an excellent source as it contains words relevant to the Bible. It is the only Bible without a patent. In order to obtain a patent the requirement is to change words which according to God is always wrong:
“The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven.” times. Psalm 12:6
Yes, we are after what God has to say but changing the words of God can only cause confusion and error.
The more one reads the Bible the more precious it becomes. It is surprising that just about any question, of actual importance, can be found in the Bible.
Though there are thousands of religions there is only one Bible and since God had the Bible written we can trust what it says. Religions, because there are so many can be very confusing yet God says in His Bible that:
“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”
1 Corinthians 14:33
This blog is not about this writer. Subjects and Bible word studies will be the followed. Topics and subjects will be the goal such as:
- The Church
- World events as they relate to God
- Individual Salvation according to what God says.
- Word studies will be used as a tool to better understand what God says.
- Subjects such as “Why we are here.”
- Finding true individual peace.
Often you will hear me say that my opinion matters little but what God has to say means everything.
This life we now live lasts but a short time. Eternity never ends. Thus what God has to says is the most important thing we could ever read or learn.
We will see that it is just not important to believe what God says but to obey what God says. This writer has not all the answers but God does. I hope many will follow the blog, make comments, suggestions and pray that HE will be uplifted and honored with every word written. If you like an article please share it with others. If you like the blog please recommend to your friends. More later as I recall……. In His precious name, Jim Finn
